Greetings Tech Nomads, Today we are looking at: The Secret Wireless Charger Slot You Already Have in Your Car TL;DR: That little pocket on your dashboard isn’t just for loose change and your phone—many cars secretly designed it for wireless charging, and adding that feature can make charging effortless. You know that small slot in your dashboard where your phone ends up the moment you slide into the driver’s seat? Surprise—it’s not just a minimalist storage cubby. Most modern cars actually designed that spot to house a wireless charging pad. The pad itself, though, is often an optional add-on, which is why so many of us are just tossing our phones there while it sits… doing absolutely nothing but sliding around on corners. If your car didn’t come with a wireless charger from the factory, you can still get one. The cost used to be enough to make your wallet flinch, but lately the prices have been dropping. Once installed, all you do is drop your phone in when you start the engine and grab it when you get out. No cables. No tangled cords. No more grumbling while you fumble for that one remaining USB port. Better yet, because most phones already support wireless charging (that’s the Qi standard, rated at around 15W), it works for just about anyone who hops in your car. Got a passenger whose battery is circling the drain? Hand them a quick top-up by letting them borrow that same slot. It’s charging hospitality at its finest. And yes, I know about MagSafe rings, magnetic mounts, and vent clips. But with most cars now rocking big infotainment screens (usually 7"–12" displays), you don’t need your phone pinned to the dash anymore. Those vent clips can block airflow, and the magnetic ones still need plugging in. The built-in wireless pad? It just works—no fuss, no cords, no magnets sliding off mid-turn. If you’re curious, check whether your car already supports this: Ford F Series – link Chevrolet Silverado – link Nissan Rogue – link Toyota RAV4 – link Why it matters: small changes like this make daily tech a little smoother. When tech disappears into the background—working quietly without reminders—that’s real progress. And your dashboard slot deserves a promotion. Be seeing you… |
